Buying a Convertible Single to Double Stroller

There are few things more exciting than the news that you're expecting your second child. But getting your family ready for the arrival of this new baby has its own set of obstacles.

One of them is choosing the most suitable double pram to meet your needs. This article will review the options available and offer some tips on how you can select the ideal pram for your growing family.

Convertible double prams

A convertible single to double stroller is a great option for those who want a stroller to expand with your family. These clever frames, such as the Cybex Aton 4 Twin, can be expanded in width to accommodate a second seat and usually come with the option of adding an additional shopping basket or two car seats or carrycots (with upper adapters and lower adapters available) to allow you to begin your family with just one buggy and later upgrade to twins without the need to buy a new one again. Double prams have more seating and configuration options for both children as compared to other styles. They also have a better weight distribution making them easier to maneuver. They are easy to use compact and flexible. Cons: Less space and storage for both children when compared to other designs.

Tandem (in-line) double prams

As the name implies tandem prams have two bassinets or seats that face one another. Tandem prams are generally narrower than side by side double prams, and are more maneuverable through doorways and on public transport. However, they don't have the same amount of storage space and may be more difficult to access when both seats are used if your toddler is sitting in the front seat.

Many first-time parents opt for tandem strollers to protect their investment in case they have children of the same age. It also converts back to one pram once your elder child outgrows it.

Tandem prams are available in a range of configurations and include the option for infants to sleep in a bassinet of the Pram Double (Ceske-Souteze.Cz) on top, while an older child is seated in the seat below. Most can also be transformed into a travel pram unit by incorporating a car capsule placed in the top seat.

A side-by-side double stroller lets both children to ride together and converse as they go. This will stop the two from fighting or wake each other up.

A side-by-side is the best option for grandparents looking to participate in the activities. They can push both children around and help with shopping, running errands, or attending events. They're usually cheaper than tandem prams, making them a great choice for grandparents to help with babysitting.

Single prams

A single pram is only able to allow one seat or bassinet/carry cot - it is usually suitable from birth through to approx. Four years old. A lot of single prams allow for a toddler board to be attached to the back, so that a second child can sit or stand (depending on the type of toddler board) while you push the stroller forward.

Some parents who are first-time parents opt to future-proof their pram by purchasing a double pram option, such as our DUO2. This means that you will use the pram in single mode when you have just one child, and then change it into a tandem in-line double pram once bub number two arrives. This will eliminate the hassle and expense of buying an additional double stroller.

Tandem or in-line double prams are wider than side by side double prams, but they are easier to maneuver on crowded pedestrian paths and in shops. However, they can be more difficult to use while running, and require more effort to push when you're climbing or descending hills.

Side by side prams are much larger than tandem or in-line double prams. They are a great option when you are planning to have two children of similar age. The children will be able to see and interact with each other from their seats. They are more difficult to maneuver than tandem strollers, and Pram double may not fit through standard doors as easily.

Side-by-side prams that are not convertible cannot be used in single mode. You'll need to purchase a new pram or a stroller to accommodate your children's younger ones. They are cheaper and last longer than double strollers with convertibles because they weren't intended to be used in double and single mode. The main downside is that your child will quickly outgrow the side-byside seats and will have to be transferred to a toddler seat, which can be costly.
