The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further and incorporates two cameras that can recognize objects, determining whether they're walls or other surfaces. It will then automatically alter its direction and clean them without missing a beat.

This is the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed but it's also the most feature-packed. Its sleek, angular design is eye-catching and it has just three physical buttons: the power button, which can also restart cleaning; a mop-only switch that doubles as a child lock; and a home button that can send the robot back to its dock. The hinged lid opens up to reveal a 350ml dustbin and 200ml tank of water. The water tank is self-emptying and the bin is auto-refilling.

The only downside I've found with this model is that the VibraRise mop pad mount is not removable. You can replace the mopping cloth when required, but it's not easy to remove the mount for washing manually. I've noticed that any carpet that the robot touches will come into contact with the rough Velcro like fastener system on mount, which can cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart capabilities which include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can manage and set up these using the Roborock app which is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app also lets you to schedule cleanings and monitor the battery life and maintain your components. However, you'll need to jump through a few hoops in order to enable voice control with this model which is a pity considering the quality of its performance.

3. Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 robot vacuum and mop is an industry leader with innovative features, superior suction power and cutting-edge mowing capabilities. Its smart design allows you to personalize and efficiently clean while saving time.

The X40 is the first robot vacuum cleaner to deliver 12,000 Pascals of cleaning power, which easily makes it one of the top options available.
